Plainfin Midshipman Documentary is Live
David Attenborough Narrates The Eerie Mating Call of This Charismatic Fish
Two years ago, the Plainfin Midshipman attracted a film crew from Canada to our beach here on Dabob Bay. They filmed for eighteen days and returned the next year to film again. The crew estimated that more than three thousand midshipmen nestled under the rocks on our shore. The collective hum can be loud enough to drown out human speech. See Plainfin Midshipman Ready for their Closeup.
The documentary, called “The Secret World of Sound,” is now out on Netflix. Weeks of filming translate into five minutes of screen time, narrated by the inimitable David Attenborough. Thank you, Peter Bahls from the Northwest Watershed Institute, for directing the crew. Last night, we attended a wonderful event hosted by the NWI and got an update on their incredible success and plans for preserving Dabob Bay. Nature needs its advocates, and Peter is a hero.
